Luton's fireworks closures run 4pm to 9pm on 7 November only, not four nights as last year. Full lists for Marsh Farm, Remembrance and the switch-on.
Luton Council has published the road closures for its November events. The streets around Popes Meadow will shut from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday 7 November for the fireworks, and only that night. Last year the same block closed for four evenings running.
The notice, dated 14 October, covers five events between 5 and 21 November. It was printed in the Luton News and Herald and is on the Public Notice Portal. The order runs from 7 to 21 November, and the council says the exact times will be signed on the street.
Fireworks at Popes Meadow: Saturday 7 November, 4pm to 9pm
The free display runs from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, with the fireworks at 7.30pm (Explore Luton). These 19 roads, or parts of them, close for it:
| Road | Section |
|---|---|
| Old Bedford Road | Cromwell Hill to Stockingstone Road |
| New Bedford Road | Cromwell Hill to Cromwell Road |
| Alwyn Close, Bowling Green Lane, Clarendon Road, Cromwell Hill | Whole road |
| Earls Meade, Frederick Street, Greenside Park, Havelock Road | Whole road |
| Havelock Rise, Knights Field, Mussons Path, Reginald Street | Whole road |
| The Wickets, Trowbridge Gardens, Wardown Crescent, Wensleydale, William Street | Whole road |
The diversion is via Stockingstone Road and New Bedford Road. The parking bays on Old Bedford Road are suspended for the closure.
Two things differ from 2025. Last year the council closed the block from 1 to 4 November, 4pm to 9pm each day (Luton Today, 16 October 2025). This year it is one evening. And a stretch of New Bedford Road, from Cromwell Hill to Cromwell Road, is on this year’s list but was not in last year’s as reported.
Marsh Farm: Thursday 5 November, 4pm to 9pm
The order also allows closures for a Marsh Farm fireworks display on bonfire night:
- Denham Close
- Morris Close
- Northwell Drive
- Wexham Close
The diversion is via Stockholm Way, Wauluds Bank Drive and The Moakes, and the parking bays on Northwell Drive are suspended.
The display has been run in past years by Marsh Farm Futures at Lea Manor Fields. The charity has not announced a 2026 date. Its events calendar was empty on 19 October, and its latest update, on 16 October, is about reopening Futures House after the August fire (Marsh Farm Futures). A closure order is the council keeping the option open, not a confirmed display.
Remembrance: Sunday 8 and Wednesday 11 November
Town Hall, 8 November, 9.30am to 12 noon. These roads close, and there is no diversion:
- Alma Street
- Castle Street and the Castle Street roundabout
- Church Street, from St Mary’s to Park Street West
- Flowers Way
- George Street
- Gordon Street
- Manchester Street
- New Bedford Road, from Alma Street to Manchester Street
- Peel Street
- Park Street West, from Park Street to Flowers Way
- Upper George Street, from Wellington Street to Gordon Street
- Vicarage Street
- Wellington Street, from Stuart Street to George Street
The same roads close again on Armistice Day, Wednesday 11 November, from 10.55am to 11.10am.
Marsh Road, 8 November, 9.30am to 12 noon. The whole road closes. The diversion is via Waller Avenue, Dunstable Road, Oakley Road, Poynters Road, Leagrave High Street, High Street and Grange Avenue.
St Thomas’ Road, Stopsley, 11 November, 10.45am to 11.30am. The short length on the west side of the war memorial island, at the Hitchin Road junction, closes with no diversion.
Vicarage Street is where the council’s biggest town centre car park is, with 218 spaces (parking in Luton). If you are parking there on the Sunday, arrive before 9.30am. The service times are on our Remembrance Sunday page.
Christmas lights switch-on: Saturday 21 November, 9am to 8pm
These roads close for the day, with no diversion:
- George Street
- Upper George Street, from Wellington Street to Gordon Street
- Manchester Street
- Wellington Street, from Stuart Street to George Street
- Peel Street
That is a longer window than last year, when the same streets closed from 12pm to 8pm (Luton Today, 16 October 2025). The event itself runs from 11am to 7.30pm around the Town Hall; the switch-on time has not been announced. Details are on our switch-on page.
What it means for you
- Going to the fireworks: do not plan to drive to the meadow. Every approach road is shut from 4pm. Walk up from the town centre, or park there. On-street parking is free in the evening in every zone except Toddington Road, but council car parks charge £2 from 6pm (parking in Luton).
- Living inside the closure: the council says access to properties will be kept “as best as possible” where it is safe. If you need to drive out on the evening of 7 November, do it before 4pm.
- Driving through the town centre on 8 November: there is no signed way round the closed streets between 9.30am and noon. Use the ring road.
- Buses: the notice does not say how routes will change. Arriva and the other operators usually post their own diversions in the week before.
The council also lists closures and diversions on its roadworks page. Other closures that week are on our Luton roadworks and travel page, and the fireworks details are on our Luton fireworks page.
